One of the many things I love about ink painting is sharing it with new audiences – reaching those had had never heard of this art form.
I have such an opportunity where this painting has been accepted into a national juried show for contemporary art. It is the first time that Chinese Brush Painting has been accepted in the 10+ year history at the Headwaters Arts Festival on Sep 16-Oct 03 in Alton, Ontario.
For this show I deliberately omitted my calligraphy and will leave it as an option for a purchaser at the time of sale. The reason is simple in that for those uninitiated in this art form, the calligraphy (most likely) is not understood and the red seals may be distracting on a Canadian themed painting. That may reduce the option of speaking with people and being an advocate for this ancient art form.
