Join me on Friday October 16th at 9pm EST for the CD launch of Jacelyn’s Holmes new Jazz CD entitled Dovetailing.
Just after the initial lockdown in March 2020, I was approached by Toronto’s Jacelyn Holmes (jazz musician and country music songwriter) in support of her 2020 CD release. Initially, the CD title was deliberately withheld by Jacelyn to encourage creativity and inspiration for the artists to select a song that truly struck a chord.
I was one of 10 women artists invited to listen to her entire CD and select a song that spoke to me and then create a piece of art that was representative of the song. That song was Dovetailing, which turned out to be the title track of the CD by the same name.
The process was inspired by listening to the song and creating a feeling of one becoming more than one. One being magnetically drawn to another; passions that could not be ignored. I’ve also included the lyrics within the art.
My painting entitled Dovetailing, will be revealed to the public during Jacelyn’s launch on Friday October 16th. The launch will include various clips of my interview about this project. Additional launches include the Montreal and Tokyo Jazz Festivals, as well as Europe and North America.
I love Jacelyn’s music, her voice, and her personality. Born and raised in Mississauga, she’s become an internationally recognized musician and actor, having performed with Keith Urban and with Adam Sandler.
So thrilled that Shangri-La was purchased during the on-line auction for Niagara Pumphouse Art Auction Fundraiser. Even more exciting, is that now that the painting has been hung in its new home, the successful bidders are ecstatic with their purchase. That makes my world turn!
I was very excited when Stella Jurgen, of Stella’s Studio approached me to participate in one of her television episodes, ‘A Cup of Coffee’ for Camoes TV. I was able to showcase my Chinese Brush Painting art and mixed media art alongside very talented musicians and visual artists.
I’d like to thank Camoes TV and MDC Media Group for this amazing opportunity.
Some of the artists on this show include:
Carol-Ann Michaelson Contemporary Jewellery, Paintings and Ceramics
Heather Christine Vocalist/Arts & Culture Specialist
Kim-Lee Kho Visual artist & instructor
Wanda Ryan Dandelions of Courage, Performing Arts
I am honoured that one of my Chinese Brush Paintings with a Canadian theme has found a new home in the private collection of King Edward, Busoga Region in Uganda.
The painting ‘Going Home’ is very personal to me. A number of years ago, my adult daughter, and only child, was driving alone late one night in Canada’s far north. We were chatting on the phone when my daughter described a beautiful snowy scene that appeared as she was driving. She said it was so beautiful, but even the beauty of the land couldn’t keep her from wanting to ‘go home’. A mother’s silent tears fell and upon finishing our conversation I immediately started to paint the scene described, which is now ‘Going Home’.
